Why My Cat Now Wears a Cone

24 Feb

cat cone

It’s cute, it’s awful, it’s embarrassing, it’s cruel, it’s funny, it’s… a cat cone.  When we first brought Petey home (on Black Friday*) he had the cutest little sneeze and a few cat boogers.  We brought him to the vet to get his shot and the vet told us to keep an eye on his cold and gave us some stuff to wipe his eyes.   His cold went away but he kept getting scabs in and around his nose.  They’d almost heal but he’d manage to scratch off his scabs over and over again.  I finally took him in this past Saturday and we were told he’d have to wear a cone until the scabs completely heal.  In the meantime he is taking antibiotics and I have to put antibacterial cream on his nose a few times a day.

Have you ever had a cat wear a cone?!  Gilligan was terrified, rightfully so.  Petey couldn’t eat from his bowl or get water or basically do anything.  We had to redesign everything.  We made a step stool for the cat box and removed the lid.  He normally likes to sleep under the couch but he can’t get under there with his new headpiece.  He somehow managed to get the thing off Saturday night and I had to wrestle him into it again (it was traumatic for both of us).   Finally last night I couldn’t take it anymore and I took the thing off of him.   I guess we’ll have to cone him when we are gone and let him be free when we are there to supervise.  Poor Petey.

*- animal shelter sales?  Had no idea, and was slightly appalled-they need all the money we can give them.

Ask the Cat- How does it feel to be a big brother Gilligan?

23 Jan

Have a question you are just dying to know the answer to?  My cats will answer it!  Just ask them…

Sarah from Michigan asks,

This one is for you Gilligan.  What is like to be a mom now?  And is it weird that Leah keeps saying you’re a mommy when clearly you’re an older brother?

-Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Well honestly I really like Petey- when he’s not disturbing my naps, eating my food, taking up all the pets and using my litter box- so I guess I only really like him for about ten minutes out of the day.  With that being said, it’s really nice not to be all alone, abandoned by my jet setting parents.  As far as the fact that my mom doesn’t understand anatomy and refers to me as Petey’s mommy… well let’s just say she’s not the smartest thing but has the best intentions and I am fairly nurturing, also if I were to ever wear denim they’d probably fall under the category of ‘mom jeans’.

Gratitude Friday

4 Apr

I have so much to be thankful for this Friday.  Like the fact that it’s still Spring Break at work.  And the weather has been nothing but sunny and beautiful lately (thank you Southern California!).  Gilligan is more handsome than ever (Mike is too). AND… we received a celebratory win package from the Surf and Sand Resort.

Some of you will remember that we, ahem I, entered us in a contest for a  Surf and Sand Resort romantic mini stay.  This is the place where Mike proposed to me so it was easy for me to share our story.  We are beyond excited to find time to go back and use our free stay.  We also won a free photography session (although with engagement pics and upcoming wedding pics I’m not sure when to use this)!

Gilligan’s *First Easter

3 Apr

Okay, so technically Gilligan was around last Easter but it appears the bunny skipped our place.  We made up for it this year!  My parents flew in from Minnesota, we invited Mike’s family, made tons of food and had friends drop by for added entertainment.
