I’m NOT an interior designer… (ugh)

28 Feb

It’s wonderful moving in with the person you love and even more wonderful finding a mutual aesthetic voice.  Decorating, as it turns out, is a long grueling process.  At first I was completely against the oversized black leather chair, but five months later it has grown on me.  The yellow floral towels received a harsh veto from him, “too much.”  We agreed on keeping an amazing chair we found in our garage (leftover from the previous residents) and scavenged the Pasadena flea market to bring home a large vintage mirror.  But we still have a long way to go.  Our bedroom is still not organized (the man has WAY more clothes than me…) between my oversized desk and his pricey bikes.  But how can I complain when we are blocks from the ocean and living in our own little bungalow of fun?  One step at a time.  I’ll post photos of our little nest soon.

For now I’ll share with you my dream home (mind you this in no way reflects his taste):

This is so fun to dream on honey; yum painted furniture & Freda, of course. And the flouncy gauzy bed arrangement could double as mosquito netting for set-up here in Minnesota when you visit!

I love the cottage style too, but this “busy” cottage look would require a LOT of upkeep! Think of all the little things to dust :o(. My dream house (and goal for what I actually live in) is “minimalist cottage/farmhouse/old world”. You’ve seen my Pier 1 kitchen table, now I have an new “old world” style tv stand that is gorgeous, and a new old world style floor lamp. It’s a start. Mostly I need to declutter, scrub, and paint. It will help. Remember, it takes time to decorate. Keep us informed of your decorating adventures – we like pictures too!

ps – if Gilligan has his claws, that material draped over the bed might not be such a great idea?
